Du 12 octobre au 12 novembre 2023, j’ai eu l’immense plaisir d’exposer mes œuvres au Centre Culturel Dar Al Maghrib à Montréal. Pendant un mois, cet espace a accueilli ma série The Sound of Colors, accompagnée de pièces uniques peintes à la main : kimonos, vestes, babouches et céramiques.
Cette exposition a été bien plus qu’une simple présentation d’œuvres. C’était une véritable conversation entre les matières, les formes, les sons et les couleurs ; un dialogue entre mes racines marocaines et mon parcours à l’international ; un lien vivant entre tradition et création contemporaine. En tant qu’artiste ayant longtemps vécu à l’étranger, c’était aussi une manière intime de me reconnecter à mon identité marocaine tout en la partageant avec le public canadien.
Je tiens à remercier chaleureusement Houda Zemmouri, la directrice du centre, ainsi que Khadija Benhaddouch, pour leur accueil généreux, leur soutien constant et leur communication fluide tout au long de cette aventure. Leur engagement envers les artistes émergents et leur passion pour la culture marocaine ont été essentiels dans la réussite de cette exposition.
Le Centre Dar Al Maghrib est bien plus qu’un lieu culturel : c’est un espace vivant qui valorise nos voix, qui fait rayonner notre patrimoine et qui donne une réelle visibilité aux artistes marocains, où qu’ils soient dans le monde.
Merci à toutes les personnes qui ont pris le temps de découvrir l’exposition, de s’arrêter, d’observer, de ressentir. Votre présence et vos retours m’ont profondément touchée. Cette expérience m’a rappelé que l’art traverse les frontières, mais qu’il reste toujours profondément enraciné dans ce que nous sommes.
Et pour moi, où que je sois, le Maroc reste au cœur de mon univers créatif.
BRINGING “THE SOUND OF COLORS” TO MONTREAL: A MONTH AT DAR AL MAGHRIB
From October 12th to November 12th, 2023, I had the joy and honor of exhibiting my work at Le Centre Culturel Dar Al Maghrib in Montreal — a space that instantly felt like home. For an entire month, the walls of the center carried the vibrant energy of my series The Sound of Colors, alongside hand-painted kimonos, jackets, babouches, and ceramics that reflect my deep connection to Moroccan culture.
This exhibit was more than just a presentation of artworks. It was a dialogue — a conversation between tradition and expression, between Morocco and the diaspora, between textile and paint, and between sound and color. As someone who has lived abroad for many years, reconnecting with my roots through art and sharing it with Moroccan and Canadian audiences alike was a deeply emotional experience.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Houda Zemmouri, the incredible director of Dar Al Maghrib, and Khadija Benhaddouch, whose warmth and professionalism made every step of the process smooth and enriching. Their support and clear communication were key in shaping this exhibition into what it became — a celebration of culture, identity, and emerging Moroccan voices.
Dar Al Maghrib is more than a cultural center. It is a platform — a heartbeat of Moroccan identity abroad. It uplifts artists like myself and offers us the space and recognition we need to grow, share, and inspire.
To everyone who came to see the exhibit, who asked questions, who felt something through the colors, textures, and rhythms of my work — thank you. This experience reminded me that art travels, but it also anchors us. And I’m proud that, wherever I go, Morocco is always at the center of my creative universe
